taa
A khuli (open) note played on the right-hand side with the whole palm to make a resonant, ringing sound. This is a special pakhawaj stroke.
Taa on the pakhawaj is played by leading with the edge of the hand so that the little finger is horizontal and centred on the syahi (black spot) almost like a ‘karate chop’, the whole hand strikes to create a resonant ringing sound. The whole hand is used to support the index finger striking the rim. The second image shows the hand at rest after the stroke and showing the edge of the hand and the horizontal little finger.
