Kirtan

Kirtan is a call-and-response chant that begins at a slow pace and gradually builds in tempo with a final return to a slow pace for one round of the chant.

Three different drum patterns theka, are used depending on the speed required. The drum patterns are shown in Section 3 and listed in the side bar on the right.

The instruction for each kirtan in Section 4 includes three separate videos that show the three different patterns for each speed; slow, medium and fast pace.

There are printable sheets to use as a visual reminder.

Gita

Gita are like folk songs that are sung at Shanti Mandir satsang.

Most are a combination of different tala from section 3.



Sanskrit text

Sankrit is the ancient language of the sacred texts of India, some of which date back two thousand years.

Shanti Mandir has some favourite sanskrit texts that are sung in part or whole with musical accompaniment.
